      <image:title>Our Approach - Quantum Materials Where Chemistry and Physics meet</image:title>
      <image:caption>Quantum materials have long promised to revolutionize technology — yet given their innate complexity, the revolution is not guaranteed. Energy storage, quantum information science and other quantum-based innovations are contingent upon a new generation of materials and devices that do not yet exist. Discovering and characterizing such materials are challenges too complicated to be solved by physics or chemistry in isolation. Rather, quantum materials represent interconnected puzzles that can only be mastered through the combined efforts of these fields. Material properties are determined by the collective behavior of electrons, stemming from the intricate interplay of quantum effects such as spin-orbit coupling, topology and electron-electron interactions. As a result, paramount to progress is an integrated understanding of the fundamental physics and chemistry underlying modern materials.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>We developed of a theory of the anomalous Hall effect in Heusler compounds, in which the interplay of topology and crystalline symmetries leads to very interesting anomalous transport properties. Our theory lead to the discovery of new magnetic Weyl semimetals with large anomalous Hall effects in the Co-Sn-S system. We further predicted the existence of an anomalous Hall effect in thin films of this materials, for which evidence has recently been found in STM experiments (arXiv:1910.11205).</image:caption>

      <image:caption>One of our main interests is the development of a chemical theory of topological materials such asTopological Insulators and Dirac Semimetals. In addition, we established a connection between chemical stability rules and the physics of strongly interacting systems. These findings allowed us to find new models of strongly interacting symmetry protected topological phases. Currently, we are interested in developing a topological classification of chemical reactions.</image:caption>
